I Used To Place Wole Soyinka On Pedestal- Charly Boy Mocks Laureate For Obidients Comment

Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, according to veteran Nigerian singer Charles Oputa, nicknamed Charly Boy, has become little more than a “toyboy” (local slang for “common errand boy”) for dishonest politicians.

The Nwata Miss singer was responding to the playwright’s recent criticism of Peter Obi’s fans, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.

According to Charley Boy, he used to regard Prof. Soyinka in the same way as how he respected his late father, Justice Oputa.

Unfortunately, Charly Boy said he has realized that Soyinka will never be the man that the late literary legend Chinua Achebe was.

He worried that the recent performance of his political career will disappoint many Nigerians who held Soyinka in high regard.

In a tweet, Charly Boy said, “The kin respect I had for that man was almost the same kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court.”

“I’ve concluded that Soyinka is not Chinua Achebe, and never will be.

“Watch as a man who is highly regarded by many Nigerians turns into a pawn for dishonest politicians.
